Wednesday night I went to see Minnie Driver at Lee's Palace. The concert was great. She had five people in her band, all of whom were very good (the guitarist was the man who produced her CD; he also plays with pete Yorn) and added some beautiful harmonies. I especially liked the bass player. My only real quibble with Minnie's set is that she only ever introduced the guitarist/producer. That's not really good form.
I don't remember the set list exactly. She played a couple covers, including the version of "Hungry Heart" that's on her CD and a John Prine song. She also played "Everything I've Got in my Pocket," "Yellow Eyes," "Deeper Water," "So Well," "Invisible Girl," "Ruby Adeline," and "Down." I think "Fast as You Can" might have been the only song on the record she didn't sing. She also didn't sing "Learn to be Lonely." She sounded great even though she had a cold.
As you might expect, she has fantastic presence. She seemed to be so happy up on the stage singing. She told a great story about how Bruce Springsteen was buying jeans in a store where they were playing her CD and "Hungry Heart" came on. He liked it so much he bought several copies. It was very cute: she was so so excited by this story.
Anyway, it was a great night. She came out to sign a few CD's, but not very many since she was sick. One of the crew did take stuff back to have her sign, though, so my POTO CD booklet is now autographed. :-)
There are a bunch of photos from the show here. They were taken by one of the friends i went with to the show.
